The children love to help clean up in the village and around the church. And yes, that is a machete. That is our lawn mower, weed-eater, chain saw, snake killer, coconut opener, and general use tool. And there is no minimum age to use it. We have seen children as young as 3 holding or carrying one. We don’t allow the younger children to use, but do teach them safe practices. Having one of our young boys in the village loose his thumb to a machete accident has opened their eyes to the dangers. |
