Jose Augusto Vargas

Augusto is a dear friend of the ministry who has helped us out on many occasions with his knowledge and wisdom.  Augusto has a background in electrical engineering and is a very successful business man in Guatemala owning his own construction company as well as an electrical motor repair shop, repairing everything from small drill motors to large industrial pumps and high voltage transformers.

Our God is still in the healing business!

Here you see a picture of Augusto on the right taken 1 year earlier.  He had lost 84 lbs in just a few short months.  The doctors here in Guatemala found out that his liver was hard and was failing.  They gave him medicine and basically sent him home to die.  When we found out his condition, the Holy Spirit spoke to my heart and told me we needed to help him.

We bought him a plane ticket and had him flown to Virginia.  I did not know what the outcome would be, I just trusted the Lord to provide everything that we would need and that everything would turn our all right to His glory.  Augusto left his family in Guatemala not knowing what the outcome would be.  He was uncertain if that would be the last that he would see his family here on the Earth.  Steps of faith.

When Augusto arrived, I did not recognize him.  He looked weak and had lost so much weight.  He was extremely jaundice, his eyes and skin was yellowish from the toxins in his body which was from his liver not working properly.  It was about midnight on Palm Sunday when we checked into a hotel for the night.  Many people here in Guatemala and the States were praying for Augusto.  We talked for a while and then I laid my hands on Augusto and prayed that the Lord would heal his body, either through the hands of the doctors or through His Miraculous Healing Power.

The very next morning we woke up, Augusto felt his stomach and sides, which were extremely hard and cramped the night before and said “Brother, I feel different, I believe God is doing something in me”.  We had breakfast and headed over to VCU in Richmond to the emergency room for him to be checked out.  We met a nurse who spoke Spanish and just so happened to be a Christian herself.  She got us checked in and Augusto was seen by the doctor.  After a thorough examination and blood work, the doctor said that his liver was working fine!  TO GOD BE THE GLORY FOR HIS MIRACULOUS HEALING POWER!!

Augusto stayed with us for 2 weeks in Virginia and then I brought him back home here to Guatemala.  As Augusto and I drove around in Virginia after God healed him, he said I don’t know why God brought me here to be healed.  I told him that I knew why.  It was a step of faith on both of our parts to step into the unknown, only to see what God and only God can do!

Today, I believe as a direct result of our obedience and faith God has opened some pretty incredible doors for us in Guatemala!  Doors that will allow this ministry to reach more people with the Gospel message than ever before.

Steps of faith, sometime it seems overwhelming, but once you take the first step, Jesus is there to carry you the rest of the way.

Two weeks later and Augusto is back home in Guatemala helping his son put on his shoes

Augusto is giving his testimony as to God’s miraculous healing hand in our church here in El Senegal, Guatemala

On July 6, 2008 Augusto went home to be with the Lord after having a different health issue that escalated very rapidly.  But one thing is for sure, I know that God had healed Augusto and removed all of his health issues at least for a short while.  Why did God allow him to get sick again?  We live in an imperfect world.  We may not know the answer until the Lord reveals it to us or until God calls us home.

But one thing is sure, in Augusto’s sickness, he still praised the Lord.  July 3rd was the last time that I spoke to Augusto, and I will never forget his last words to me,

“Brother, God is so good, we serve a good God.”
