The message was preached from the book of Jonah. The title of the message “Disobedience Has A Price”. We read a portion of the first chapter and then began to tell the true real life story of Jonah and his disobedience to God and how others paid for his sin of disobedience. When I preach, I like to make it real, I try and relate what I am preaching to my life experiences. I also like to intermix humor and drama into the message, because our target audience is the children. Jesus used the same kind of some call it preaching others call it story telling (that’s what a parable is, a story with a lesson). I like to call it Edu-tainment. Being entertaining and educational at the same time. What child (or adult) wants to hear the same monotone voice throughout the sermon. We need to grab these kids attention so that they are paying attention and not day dreaming. If you hear something and see it at the same time, it sticks. (Just watch all the commercials geared toward your children and you will see what I am talking about!) To the left David is now playing the part of the ships crew trying to wake up Jonah (Nevil) who was playing all the parts as he translated for me. A funny thing is starting to happen, when I am preaching, I automatically am speaking Spanish if I know the words. It is so cool to see how God is working. We preached this same message in 3 different churches challenging the people to be obedient to God and His callings. I shared an example of my life of being called to be a missionary earlier in my life and rejecting the call. How much more could God have done with me had I obeyed His first calling. |

Here David paints a picture of what Jesus did on the cross for my disobedience. The payment for my sin was His death. Jesus was innocent, He had no disobedience, it was mine and yours that He took to the cross. All we have to do is to humble ourselves and ask His forgiveness for our disobedience, our sin. And He will forgive us and wipe the slate clean. No matter what the disobedience or sin, He is faithful and just and will forgive our sins. All you have to do is call upon His name, He is waiting for you. Your disobedience has a price, it cost Jesus His life. |
