We have been blessed to have Melany working with our team as an intern from University Rafael Landivar Zacapa Campus for the last year. She has finished her intern with us, but her work is not finished. We encourage students and Universities to come back and use our facilities for their remote classrooms, to continue their relationship with the folks here in our community.

Melany’s focus was on Social Work in the schools and communities, with an emphasis on speaking to the young women and men about family planning to include abstinence, and various forms of birth control as well as the risk of sexually transmitted diseases. When I was first approached by Melany, she asked me what we needed help with. With the sky rocking 13–16-year-olds and younger having babies, I knew we needed to address this often-taboo subject that is not talked about much.

Melany did a fantastic job with speaking into the lives of many adolescents and young mothers to encourage and educate them about family planning.
