Hurricane Iota Now Flooding Guatemala 2020 Please Stop!

Lord Jesus the Earth is groaning for your return. This year has been a challenging year to say the least for Guatemala and the world! First thing was the COVID crisis which locked down Guatemala for at least 6 months. No one was permitted to work unless you were essential. Folks that worked in far away farms could not get to work because the transportation system came to a halt. Farmers lost crops because they had no workers or means to get their crops from their fields, to the markets, which were also closed.

Hurricane Iota

So just when a glimmer of light was shining on Guatemala and things were getting back to a new normal, along came hurricane Eta which caused mass devastation all over Central America. One week later in comes hurricane Iota, which thankfully weakened, but not the rains. So here we are back to square one all over again.

Early this morning those who returned to La Linea to try and dig out and set their homes back up, were awoken once again by rising flood waters. Fortunately, a majority of those affected are still set up in a temporary encampment outside the village on higher ground. With the flood waters continuing to rise, the road to La Linea is already under water and they will be completely cut off in a few hours.

The road just above the church building did wash out already as you can see in the video below. We will need to purchase a large drain pipe, rock and gravel to fix this, as this is a road that we maintain and not the government.

Road in La Linea washed out

Today our team helped evacuate family and friends from the flood zones in Gualan ahead of the rising water. Sadly, this community is now under water.

We are continually blessed with donations that keep coming in from all over to help these folks who have lost everything. Recently we had someone donate some funds for us to purchase some needed blankets, shoes, clothing, and food. The Lord continues to bless us in unexpected ways through HIS people.

Thank You to all our angels who make this possible

It truly has been an exhausting few weeks for our team. They have been faithfully preparing meals for the folks in the encampment everyday. If you have given money to help with this, we are truly thankful. Little ones are being fed because of your generosity. We had budgeted for about 2 weeks worth of feedings. With this last storm, those 2 weeks are going to turn into months….until things are back to “normal”.

PLEASE, if you have not already helped financially, I am begging you to help with whatever you can. We have a long road ahead of us and need all the prayers and support we can get. 100% of your donation goes directly to programs like this that make a lifesaving difference in the name of Jesus. Donations can be made online at our web site www.hishands.org or if making a large donation, please send a check to His Hands International 1874 Daniels Road Boydton, VA 23917.
